On average, our basic puppy insurance in the UK costs between £15 and £20 per month, while comprehensive lifetime policies typically range from £25 to £40+ per month. However, your exact premium depends on three main factors, which are your location, breed risk and level of cover chosen.

The best time to insure your puppy is the day you bring them home—typically at 8 weeks old.

Insurers consider any illness or injury that occurs before a policy starts (or during the initial 14-day waiting period) as a “pre-existing condition,” which is usually excluded from standard policies. Securing insurance immediately ensures your puppy is covered before they can develop common early-life conditions, such as gastrointestinal bugs, swallowed objects, or unexpected injuries during play.

Under UK law, all puppies must be microchipped by 8 weeks of age and registered with a database before being sold or rehomed. Most UK insurance providers strictly require your puppy to be legally microchipped for a policy or claim to be valid.
