Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Cover begins from your chosen start date. However, illnesses occurring within the first 14 days, or accidents and injuries within the first 5 days of the policy, are not covered.

Before taking out a policy, you must declare any known current conditions, including a full illness history. We cannot cover any conditions that manifested before the policy is taken out, but new illnesses, accidents, and injuries will be covered in line with the standard terms of your policy.

It is essential you tell us everything you know or have been told about your dog from the rescue centre, however minor. We advise you get a vet checkup as soon as possible for your rescue and that you contact us so we can get you covered as quickly as possible.

Many dogs will come with free temporary insurance that covers them for around 4-6 weeks. This gives you the chance to find longer-term coverage, which we recommend you do with us as quickly as possible.

We insure pets aged between 5 weeks and 8 years from the start of a policy, though certain breeds can only be insured if the pet is less than five years old.

We can cover crossbreeds and unknown mixes — but Muddy Paws cannot cover dogs that must be registered under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.

As long as it is not for a routine appointment, we pay claims directly to your vet. You only need to pay the excess as set out in your policy agreement, rather than the full bill upfront.

If complementary or alternative therapy — such as acupuncture, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, or treatment for behavioural illness — is recommended by your vet, this can be covered.

Routine vaccinations or care cannot be claimed for and will not be included in your policy.

Whether your dog is a rescue does not necessarily influence the level of your policy premiums, but the age, breed, and health of your new pal dictates it more. We highly recommend you get a quote with us.
